Simple Advice: Bring Positivity, Every Day

Keeping your energy level up all the time is hard. We all get tired. We all get frustrated. We all get sick of our work/colleagues/friends/selves. And when we are any of these things, our productivity suffers.

One of the best quotes I have ever heard (well… more of an attitude than a quote) is that “positivity is a choice to be made every morning.” The obvious corollary then is that being negative is also a choice. When we are in a negative mode, we are less productive, we are less fun to be around, people won’t want to follow us, people won’t be persuaded or influenced by us… the list goes on. No one wants to be around a negative person. And in terms of your communication skills, your abilities as a communicator will be directly connected to your outlook and your energy level. Positive people tend to communicate positively. Negative people tend to communicate negatively. And all of us tend to be drawn to those who exude positive energy and bring passion with them to work everyday.

This is not always easy. We all have our bad days and bad stretches, including me, and mental health challenges can cause a positive outlook to feel insurmountable. I am not minimizing that reality at all, because I have lived it. We have had stretches here at The Latimer Group where the business is booming, and everything seems great. And we have those stretches where business slows and you wonder if it will ever turn around. But no matter what mode your business is in, it is so critical to bring the same energy and passion every day. When things go badly, being negative about it will not change anything. It may in fact make it worse. Regardless of whether things are going great or going poorly, your chances for success each and every day improve if you bring positive energy and passion to your work.

Being positive is a daily choice and practice, and the more often you make the choice for positivity, the more likely you are to get into a good stretch of productivity and success.

Have an awesome day.
