Three Powerful Thoughts for 2023

Good morning friends, and happy new year from our team at The Latimer Group.

As we all shake off the rust and get back into our work after a holiday break, I have three thoughts for you to start off the work year. When you think about your own goals for the new year, and the goals for your team or your organization, we encourage you to think about these three things:

  1. There is nothing “soft” about communication skills. If you make a list of all the things you need to be good at in the 2023 workplace, communication skills needs to at or near the top of the list. Regardless of industry, level of seniority, or functional area, communication skills are a critical success factor for all of us.
  2. It is a noisy world out there, and hard to be heard. There is a lot of competition for the attention spans of the people we need to connect with. Our clients, customers, colleagues, partners, vendors, and colleagues have lots of things pulling at their mindshare. Being heard won’t happen automatically. We need to think about it, and plan for it.
  3. The most valuable person in the room is the person who can synthesize and make things easier. The vast majority of people suffer from information overwhelm. So, the person who can simplify, translate, and make information memorable and actionable has huge competitive advantage. Make sure that’s you.

That’s it for today. Our team wants you to have the communication skills you need to succeed. So let’s start our year by making sure we are thinking about our communication in the appropriate ways.

Good luck, happy new year, and we look forward to crossing paths with you soon.
