The world is moving fast, and information and content are coming at us constantly. Time is precious and limited. Organizations are leaner, attention spans have dropped, and everyone is being socially conditioned to “change the channel” very quickly. This is the world we now live in.
In the very recent past, people who had access to data and information were highly valued, because information was hard to come by. But the most valuable person today is not the person who shows up with tons of information. No. The person with competitive advantage today is the person who can simplify and translate, and who can quickly and clearly communicate things in valuable ways.
In this talk, Dean Brenner discusses ways to make yourself the most valuable person in the room.

In our professional lives, we need to be able to cut above the noise. We need to be heard, so that we can advocate for ourselves, for our companies, our projects, our ideas and the things that we believe in. And this isn’t easy. According to the Information Overload Research Group, skilled workers waste up to a quarter of their workday managing this deluge, at a cost of $990 billion per year. And there is an unquantifiable cost in cognitive overload. This problem is impossible to quantify, but undeniable in existence. But it is possible to push back against the noise, and to create a communication culture that prioritizes effective information flow.
In this talk, Dean Brenner discusses ways to build effective information flows across your organization.

Many people who are allegedly “listening,” are really just quietly thinking about what they want to say next. Many are daydreaming or multi-tasking when they are in meetings or on conference calls. We are all guilty of this. But when we allow ourselves to be distracted, and when we don’t listen with intention, we are giving up our best chance to understand the people around us, and gather critical information. We are being highly inefficient, and sacrificing our best chance at connection and understanding.
In this talk, Dean Brenner discusses how to use listening to gather information, build trust and unlock competitive advantage.
