My family and I met with a dear old friend yesterday, who has recently started a new job as Head of School at a well-known New England boarding school. We were going to be in his neighborhood, and he generously agreed to spend a few minutes with us and show us around. It was great to reconnect, and learn more about his school.
While on the tour of the campus, I asked him what attracted him to this role at this school. And his answer blew me away. He quoted an alum of this school who described this school as a “place that removed ceilings for me, and helped me go higher than I ever thought I could.”
Wow… what a specific, highly visual way to describe what that school had done for that former student… and probably many other former students as well.
That quote stuck with me all night, which is why I am writing about it here the next morning. Because that alum also perfectly described what The Latimer Group believes your communication skills can do for you. When you can speak clearly and powerfully, when you can advocate for yourself and the things that you believe in, when you can be heard in this noisy world we all live in, the net effect for you is that there are fewer ceilings holding you down… fewer roadblocks in your way… fewer barriers preventing your entry.
Strong communication skills strengthen you.
Strong communication skills empower you.
Strong communication skills help you break through those ceilings that may be preventing you from reaching the heights you want and deserve.
What a powerful visual. That visual motivated our friend to take that job and lead that school. And that visual puts into clear words one of the many things that motivate me and my colleagues in our work. We believe that great communication skills can change the world. Starting with your world.
Have a great day.
